Why Backwards letters
Its a common myth that Dyslexia is reading backwards. Dyslexia is not a vision or eye issue. Its not seeing things flipped. Dyslexic people do not read letters backward rather many may confuse letters or write then backwards so writing letters backwards can happen though it is not a defining trait but why does this happen? It all has to do with treating letters as symbols versus objects. Our brains have a feature called mirror image reversal so that a person can instantly recognize an object no matter its direction.
When the non dyslexic brain learns to associate letters to there sound a part of there brain the “letterbox” gets the job to to process letters, not as objects, but as symbols of our written code.
While for Dyslexic people this process developes diffrently which can make less efficient communication between the object recognizer and sound processor slowing the process of letters being treated as symbols instead of objects. So to a dyslexic brain a “b” is a “d” flipped around just like how if you saw a chair facing a different direction you would not question if this is a chair or not. Once the sound and letters get stronger and more connected they become symbols which can be differentiated easier.
